Blank Days

Ever look ahead on the calendar and see a blank day? You suddenly realize that there's no where to go that day - and you protect that status will an odd fierceness. You accept that there will still be laundry and dishes and cooking and diapers and bus stops and homework... but maybe that blank day will be free of some or all of the following: waking up by an alarm, showering by a certain time, putting on make-up, putting on a bra, getting in the car, hoping the car has enough gas and going somewhere by a certain time. How exciting that maybe just maybe that blank day can be a day of sleeping til mid morning, putting on old but comfy clothes or just keeping on what you slept in, and maybe or maybe not taking a shower. You can guilt-free work on a crossword puzzle or read a book or watch a movie or call a friend.

In my LBK (life before kids), I had a full time, monday-friday job. I tried to keep my weekends free but more often that not, weekends were for catching up with family and friends. That of course was a good if not great thing! But how I relished a blank day to enjoy to myself.

These days, my calendar is full of wonderful activities for my kids and even a few for myself. But oh do enjoy a blank day here and there! They are so few and far between.

Blank days are great, aren't they? This past Sunday, after we went to church, the rest of the day was a "blank" day. We laid around and watched movies all day! It was a nice "blank" family day!!!
