It is a cute story about a mischievous witch and how she enters a cake contest. On the back of the book is an actual recipe for Old Witch's Magic Nut Cake.
It looked easy enough and included directions like "bake for and hour and 15 minutes or until a straw from a witch's broom, inserted in the cake, comes out clean." I did some research on the internet and found several folks who have tried this recipe since the book's release in 1970. Though the original recipe calls to use 3 one-pound coffee cans, I was relieved to find others had simply used bread loaf pans.

And she even did the dishes while the cake was baking!!
The final thing to do was to eat the cake! It was yummy! Eating the cake was the best part, Gina said. The best part for me was doing something like this with my daughter. She's was so eager to this when she spotted the recipe on the back of the book. I'm glad we got to do it together.
